Fabric workloads and other items currently covered in the DP-600 exam

Reading Time: 2 minutes

In this post I want to provide some clarification as to which Microsoft Fabric workloads and other items are currently covered in the DP-600 Microsoft Fabric exam.

To make it clear what to focus on in order to pass the exam. So that you can gain the Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate certification.

As of late I have been busy due to presenting a training day at Data Ceili and enjoying a long vacation. Which is why this is my first post in a while.

On that note, a personal thanks to all those who mentioned me on social media or reached out to me thanking me for my DP-600 content. It has motivated me to publish this post.

Anyway, I have wanted to do this post for a while now for various reasons. Including some comments online stating that knowledge about all Microsoft Fabric workloads is required for the exam. Which is not accurate.

By the end of this post you will know what is actually covered.

In reality, I touched in this topic in a previous post. Where I covered four simple facts about the DP-600 exam.

However, I wanted to make it clearer with the help of the below diagram.

Fabric environment and other items currently covered

As the above diagram shows, you only need knowledge about the below four Microsoft Fabric workloads.

  • Data Factory
  • Data Engineering
  • Data Warehouse
  • Power BI

Plus, you need knowledge about configuring the Microsoft Fabric environment. In addition, the below applications and services:

You do not need in-depth knowledge about the below workloads for the exam.

  • Data Activator
  • Data Science
  • Real-time Intelligence
  • Industry solutions

I know there has been plenty of discussions as of late about the level of knowledge required for the Data Engineering and Power BI workloads in order to pass the DP-600 exam.

However, it does remind me of an incident that happened in the past. Where a data engineer delivered Power BI reports and a former colleague had to recreate them.

When I think about that incident needing knowledge about both to gain the certification makes more sense to me.

Final words

I hope this post makes it clearer which Microsoft Fabric workloads and other items are currently covered in the DP-600 Microsoft Fabric exam.

Because I want to make sure everybody knows what to focus on when studying for the exam.

Of course, if you have any comments or queries about this post feel free to reach out to me.
