In this post I want to cover an update that can help you create your own Microsoft Fabric environment. Which you can consider a follow-up to previous posts.
Last year I shared how you can create your own Fabric environment through the Microsoft 365 Developer Program. Since there are many advantages to creating your own Microsoft Fabric environment instead of working with just a work related one.
However, in February Microsoft limited access to the Microsoft 365 Developer Program. Which caused me to update my original post and shared some alternative options.
So, it makes me happy to share that those eligible are now create new tenants with the Microsoft 365 Developer Program again. However, there are limitations now to who qualifies for a Microsoft 365 E5 developer subscription.
What does that mean? Well when I updated my Fabric environment post earlier this year I mentioned that if you work for an employer who is part of the Microsoft AI Cloud Partner Program you can request access to an E5 developer subscription.
Now, you also qualify for a Microsoft 365 E5 developer subscription if you have a Visual Studio Professional or Enterprise subscription.
Which means that more of you are now eligible to create your own Fabric environment. Without paying extra for the E5 trial.
Creating your own Fabric environment
You can visualize various ways that you can create your own Fabric environment in the below diagram. Which takes into account other options that I covered in my post about creating your own Fabric environment.
In reality, this is a simplified diagram. You can find more detailed steps in my original post that covers how to create your own Fabric environment.
Which also covers how to create your own Azure DevOps organization in the same tenant. Allowing you to test Microsoft Fabric Git integration.
As you can see in the above diagram, you can also access the new Microsoft Purview portal in your own Microsoft Fabric environment. Allowing you to test various compliance and governance offerings.
For example, you can test creating an assessment in Purview to view ESG data estate data in Fabric in your own environment.
Final words about the update that can help you create your own Microsoft Fabric environment
I hope that by sharing this update and my diagram some of you have a better idea of potential options to create your own Microsoft Fabric environment now.
Because I know how important this topic is to a lot of you. Especially those looking to study for the DP-600 exam.
